SF had a great start and they scored at the very 1st possession of the game scoring a 52 rushing TD with Gore who run thru the awful tackles by the soft Chargers defense on an inside run. The Chargers played a very disappointing 1st possesion ended with a a quick 3 and out that gave the 9ers another chance to increase their lead and it seemed done before the FB Miller lost a fumble on the Chargers 2 yards recovered by LE Corey Liuget. The Chargers offense didn't do anything good, they have been so inconsistent and they finished to turnover the ball due to a Rivers interception made by CB Parrish Cox who was covering a double move by WR Seyi Aijiratutu. On the following drive the 9ers made a balanced offense who let them score their 2nd TD of the game a receiving 1 by WR Ellington who catched the ball alone in the endzone after a well execute play action, they scored without finding any issue, the Chargers defense continue to struggle totally in every department. Rivers decicisions in this game have been awful but they got even worse when he tried to hit Gates on a slant but he forgot about SS Bethea who picked him off and scored the 21-0 SF. Finally for the Chargers Rivers seemed awake on the following drive and he lead his team to their 1st score of the game with Rovers who found Royal in the endzone on an OUT route, huge contribution by the great Gates during the drive. With the last chance to score in the 1st half the 9ers marched down the field especially with their running game due to the Chargers ridicolous defense who hasn't been able to stop the opponents on goaline due to stupid penalties, with so many chances SF score their 4th TD of the 1st half with a jet sweep run by WR Ellington who score his 2nd TD of the half.
After more then 5 minutes of defense domination for both teams, Rivers found the way to attack the 9ers defense and he did with short passes, it has been a forced choice due to the inability to run the ball that let the Chargers to arrived on a yard away from score where they found difficulties to score running the football but they finally did it with a Gates receiving TD after a play action fake. The 9ers saw nullified a TD of TE Davis due to a chop Block penalty and the Chargers defense made their best play of the game thus far sacking Kaepernick and made him fumble the ball that has been recovered by the defense in the offense for the 3rd SD's TD of the game. Kaepernick reaction came immediately running the ball for over 80 yards to regain a 14 point lead. The Chargers got closer to to a west coast offense kind of drive full of short passes especially to rookie WR Inman who played a very good drive, the drive ended when Rivers found Gates alone in the endzone for his 3rd TD pass of the game. Awesome final drive of the regulation who saw Rivers convert 2 straight 4th and long, the 1st to Royal on amazing catch diving along with the 9ers CB, Inman converted the 2nd one on an out route. Finally Rivers found WR Floyd in the endzone to not extend just the game but even his team's season. SF won the toss and got the ball 1st in the OT an theuy arrived soon to the midfield area but Weddle forced WR Patton to fumble the ball recovered by the Chargers. Rivers started the drive with short passes to end it with inside runs dive or draws especially out of the shotgun since the arrived on SF 41 to let Novak to kick and make the game winning FG.
Awesome and exciting game, one of the best in recent regular season history, full of mistakes by both sides, SF very good to run the ball awful in passing, on defense since they kept a very good pressure everything has been great once they started to be tired the Chargers have been unstoppable.
SD played with huge holes in their depth chart and with a Rivers afflicted by a huge pain to his back, by the way their heart let them overcame everything but they need to play better to be competitive at higher levels and stay focused on KC's game to get their spot in the post season, also they can'y allow over 300 yards on the ground and another thing that they need to improve is the deep balls because Rivers need them to not become mono-dimensional. The 49ers need to focus on their future who should be great due to the great players that they have, even if Gore played a great 1st half they need a new one for the next season but i wouldn't change the coach because Harbough had great results with his team and this year is heavly conditionated by injuries.
My MVP throphy goes to the Chargers' players heart that has been huge and i have no words to describe it...
