The Titans started with the ball and the veteran QB Charlie Whitehurst has been perfect 6/6 to 5 different targets to lead his offense to the 1st TD of the game that has been a receiving 1 by RB Leon Washington running a release route on a 3rd and goal. Even if the Jags front 7 played good their secondary never came close to stop Whitehurst and his receivers. After this fast start of the game the defenses shut down the offenses for the rest of the 1st quarter having a complete dominance on opponents' running game to make the opponents predictable. At the beginning of the 2nd quarter the Titans tried to let their running game to produce something but without getting any result out of their try because the Jags' front 7 played tough on inside Sankey's runs to limit him just to few yards. After multiple attempts the Titans increased their lead with a 50 yards FG well executed by K Succop after a more balanced drive than the others but the majority of the plays remained passes, Whitehurst arrived on FG range with his last play of the drive throwing underneath to WR Wright seeing the LBs play too deep on a cover to avoid the 3rd and 18 conversion after a sack by DE Davis who plays like a specialist on pass rushing situations. Jags' RB Toby Gerhart lead the charge for the home team with 2 powerful runs that resulted in a good game then Bortles took his team on his shoulders and drove them into the endzone with a successful passing game targeting multiple receivers and been unpredictable also alternating "normal passes" with passes after a play action fake who resulted effective due to gerhart goo begin of the drive, the final pass has been recived by veteran TE Mercedez Lewis who scored 1 on 1 on a fade route against SS Stafford. The 1st half ended with the Titans ahead 10-7 over the Jags.
The 2nd half began with WR Lee who made a big play on an IN route to overcame the midfield mark, the fired up Bortles lead the Jags with his pass deep in the Titans redzone even thanks to a very good and funny trick play who saw WR Shorts III to pass the ball to RB Todman for a 1st down, Tennessee defense seemed to could stop Bortles & Co. but a silly holding on a 3rd and goal failed conversion gave the Jags other 4 tries to score and Gerhart capitalyzed it with a dive run to took his team ahead by 4 points.
After a pair of drives for each teams completely dominated by the defenses 'till RB Todman made the best play thus far in the game running 62 yards scoring a TD faking an outside run then cutting back inside and making 4 tackles miss him with his very good speed. Titans reaction came from Whitehurst hands with 2 big plays on air, the 1st one to Wright for 39 yards on an outside pass an the 2nd one to WR Hagan, unfortunately for them Whitehurst missed an easy Pass on 3rd and goal to TE Waker who was alone in the endzone ready to score due to that mistake K Scoobe came on the field to kick the 1st 3 points of the 2nd half fromthe Titans. The Jags tried to chew all the time remained in the game running the ball inside with heavy formations and they gave back the ball to the Titans with 1:06 left in the game no TOs and 80 yards to go trailing by 8 points. Whitehurst did a good job to lead his team to midfield but once there the time forced him to do difficult plays that he wasn't able to do due to a very good Jags' defense lead by Clemons and Mark who sacked the opponents QB to end the game.
I feel to to say congratulations to both teams to play tough even if they should easly try to lose to get a better draft position, all the players try to impress the front office os their own team tryin to play their best.
The Titans needs to improve especially on offense even if Whitehurst played a solid game, their running game didn't work due to the important absence on their o-line and also because Jacksonville has a very good front 7, the only mistake they made has been to not continue to target TE Delanie Walker who is playing a very good season and he has been the most reliable receiver for the Titans' QBs since he came from the 9ers. On defense the change from a 4-3 to a 3-4 continue to be a problems for the especially against the running game but in this game i saw improvements in every defensive department and with the exception of the Todman big play they get the job done on the running game.
The Jags owns a good prospective offense that would need a vetran center who can help Bortles to read better certain coverages or blitzes, for the rest they just need to wait few years to improve and make the necessary experience to get better. On defense they have just to fix the secondary drafting or a safety or a CB with the 1st 2 or 3 picks, the 4 d-linemen played great but they need another pass-rusher aside of Clemons who is not young anymore. The MVP trophy of this game goes to RB Todman who changed the game with his big run and also took off pressure from Bortles, even DT Marks and QB Bortles played a very good game and have been key parts for the Jags win.
