NHL: Chicago Blackhawks 4 LA Kings 1 recap and analysis

1st Period

The biggest game of the night started with a very good pace especially by the defenses who didn't allow the offense to came close to the goalies to have great chances to score, both teams tried to score with long distance shots even trying deflections with the traffic in front of the goalies. Chicago scored 1st with a Bickell tip-in well assisted by Saad who made a very effective semi-circling move before find his teammate in the goal crease with the decisive deflection. With 2 minutes left in th period Saad left after an head to head contact with Clifford, with only 22 seconds of the game Muzzin tied the game with an unexpected shot who fooled Darling.

2nd Period

Blazing start of the period for the home team with 2 goals, the 1st one has been scored by Keith on a early PP with a snap shot from the blue line, the 2nd has been scored by Hjalmarsson 54 seconds after the Keith's one after Sharp hit the crossbar the Blackhawks kept the play alive and the defenseman scored with a very good slap shot from the high circle. After those 2 goals Chicago continue to attack and have the puck's possession in the offensive zone producing more chances than their oppenents who started to reacted in the 2nd part of the period but without any result.

3rd Period

Trailing by 2 goals LA played better than the disastrous 2nd period but even this time they didn't find the net because even if they put a lot of pucks in front of Darling for different reasons they haven't been able to push it into the net and another turnover in the defensive zone destroyed their chances to comeback into the game when Hossa scored with wrist shot thanks to a bad move by Quick.

NHL: NY Islanders 2 Anaheim Ducks 3 recap and analysis

1st period

The pace of this period hasn't been the one i expected, the 1st 6 minutes has been controlled by the home team but they have had just 1 chance with Tavares on a angled snap shot that has been stopped by a quick reaction by Andersen. The Ducks created their 1st chance of the game on a puck behind the Neuwirth's net put in front it by Maroon that let Rakell score the 1st goal of the game. The game continue in that way until the Isles tied the game with 3 minutes left on the period thanks to a Visnowski snap shot from the blue line well assisted by Strome.

2nd Period

This period has been very explosive with a Palmieri goal who has been to sweep the rebounding puck into the net, Cizikas had a breakaway chance 1 on 1 but Andersen began a streak of very good stops that didn't allow the home team go tie the game, the Isles got a 2 men advantage PP with 9:44 left in the period but Andersen denied Tavares and Strome in a back to back chances, the traffic in front of the Ducks' goalie continued without any result and again Anaheim punished them with Cogliano on a breakaway back hand goal.

3rd Period

Anaheim ahead by 2 goals controlled the game and continued to concede just few chances and the rhythmim of the offense slew down so much til the Isles with 5:30 left in the period scored a goal with Cizikas that seemed to open up a comeback chance for NY but unfortunately for them they didn't score again even thanks to a very good performance by Andersen.

NHL: NY Rangers 2 LA Kings 4 recap and analysis

1st Period

Th Rangers has a flashing start and after 51 seconds they got the lead with a Zuccarello's goal with a perfect slap shot in front of the net but the Kings reacted very well putting pressure on their opponents with an effective forecheck so they started to have good scoring chances, the biggest one on the stick of Lewis alone in from of the net but Talbot answered great something that didn't happen some minutes later on the Regehr's shot that tied the game. LA continued to forced the Rangers to make turnovers and this gave them a good shot advantage in matter of numbers and quality. 

2nd Period

The visitors continued to establish their game with their forecheck along with a very good discipline on the ice, they continued to shot more than their opponents and this paid off when Williams regained the possession of the puck and quickly gave it to Kopitar who assisted Gaborik who score the go ahead goal. With 13:50 left LA got a PP but the Rangers didn't let them establish the possession in the offensive zone, same ting happened to the NY's PP some minutes later.

3rd Period

Very fast start by the defending champions that scored with Carter from the goal crease thanks to a perfect assist by King from the left wing, they continued their dominance with a PP where they "score a phantom goal" that the refs denied, the Kings got the 3 goals lead with a Muzzin's goal from the high circle with a powerful snap shot very well assisted by Kopitar after an elegant move behind the net. NY tried to get back in the game but it was too late when Hayes score with a wrist shot.

NHL: LA Kings 1 Vancouver Canucks 4 recap and analysis

1st Period

Very fast start of the period for the home team with a very efficient forecheck and a good puck movement they have been able to create so many chances until they scored with Carter from the goal crease but the referee nullified it due to high stick ( very doubtful call and even the replay haven't been able to explain if it was a correct call or not). After that the Kings continue to play better than their opponents but they haven't been able to score and so the Canucks.

2nd Period

The Kings got a PP right after 17 seconds and they capitalyzed the chance immediately with a perfect wrist shot by Gaborik from the high circle right under the crossbar well assisted out of the faceoff by Kopitar and Daughty. Since that moment the visitors controlled the game and it paid off when they moved the puck so quickly from defense to offense with just 2 passes and the bouncing puck provided to Bonino by Vrbata has been put under the crossbar where Quick couldn't do anything.

3rd Period

The 3rd period has been balanced for the 1st 3 minutes but the double penalty in favor of the Canucks changed not only the momentum of the period but the one of the entire game, because the Daughty penalty forced them to play with 4 skaters but Toffoli committed a 5 minute major for checking from behind on Burrows and this gave an huge advantage to Vancouver who capitalized it quickly with Vrbata who scored from the low circle with such a difficult angle. Since the major penalty ended the Kings regained the control of the game and they had some chances the biggest one with King 1 on 1 against Lack who was ready and didn't let the puck go into the net, with the empty net and less than a minute to go the Kings allowed other 2 goals by Daniel Sedin and Horvat that closed the game out.

NFL: Eagles sign DeMarco Murray considerations and analysis

Murray is just the latest and the biggest addiction of a very rich offseason's campaign for the team of the city of brotherly love. Murray signed a 5 year deal worth for 42 Millions and 21 of them guaranteed, a necessary precaution due to the Murray's issues to stay healthy in each of last 3 years.
The Eagles' move will have effects in 2 ways, 1st they took away from their biggest rivals arguably their best player leaving a big hole in their lineup and also they will get a different type of HB than McCoy in fact the Murray's power will provide a better efficiency in short yardage situations like the goaline ones and will be complementary to the awesome speed and elusiveness of Sproles.
The former Cowboy is of course a work-horse but with Mathews and Sproles in the backfield he ll get less runs than last years and i think it ll be a good thing for his health and in case they ll go playoffs he ll be free to his typical end of the season injuries that limited him so many times during his career.
Murray production in matter of yards and TDs should go down not only because of the other HBs on his team but also because of the o-line, in Dallas he could rely on arguably the best o-line to run the football something that in Phila has not be continuous last season.
Rating: A, i give an A because this move upgrade so much their offense and should fix all the problems that they had in last season and in my opinion help them to be contenders in the NFC.

UFC 185: Pettis vs Dos Anjos recap ratings and analysis

Cariaso vs Cejudo: Cejudo has been in control right from the beginning of the match on both striking (where on the paper Cariaso had a good advantage) and grappling using his great wrestling skills, in the 2nd and 3rd round the match moved on the ground due to the weak takedown defense by Cariaso but once on the ground he shown a pretty good defense that didn't allow his opponent to close the match before the times expired. Winner: Cejudo by ananimous decision. Rating: E

Nelson vs Overeem: Overeem strategy has been based on avoid the Nelson's counterattacks especially the lethal right hand punches, the 1st round has been characterized by studying the opponent and the one few notable things happened have been some Overeem flying knee that came from his thai boxe repertory, the English fighter continued to be so cautious being knowledge of his fragile jaw and with a predictable Nelson the fight has been a lil bit to boring but Big country had the chance with 1 minute left in the 3rd round to end it with a left overhand that threw Overeem on the ground but he has been able to complete the KO. Winner: Overeem by unanimous decision. Rating D-

Hendricks vs Brown: the former champion controlled the match right from the beginning moving the fight on the ground where he tried to finish it with ground and pound action and even when the match continued standing up Hendricks shown a better striking technique than the his opponent and this didn't let Brown to get into the match. Pettis vs Dos Anjos: the brazilian fighter used the same strategy of Melendez to don't give enough space to Pettis to explode his spectacular kicks and this put the champion in such big difficulties, on the 2nd round the fight moved on the ground with a solid control of the contender, in the 3rd the striking took over and both fighters exchanged good hits, in the 4th the defending champion has not been able to keep the fight standing up and Dos Anjos controlled him for the most part of the time with his bazilian jujitsu in the 5th Pettis tried to win it by KO but he never come close to do it and this opened up the door for his opponent to take him on the ground where he came close to win the match by a mataleao. Winner: Dos Anjos (new champion). Rating: C.

NHL: Boston Bruins 2 Pittsburgh Penguins 0 recap and analysis

1st Period

Impressive period defensively for the Boston Bruins who didn't leave any chances to score to the Pittsburgh Penguins due to the very effective forecheck along with a very good positioning that caused so many problems to their opponents to establish the possession on the offensive zone and even on PPs they had the same issues, Boston scored the only goal of the period with a Lucic wrist shot after a very good puck movement on the offensive zone.

2nd Period

This has been a very balanced period that saw very few chances to score by both teams with both defense to continue to rule the game and the only shots of the period cam from breakaways but both goalies have been ready and they gave their contribution to let this period end without any goals.

3rd Period

The game defensive trend continued and because of that the scoring chances continued to be rare but the physicality of the game has been impressive especially for the Penguins that a lot of times have been called "soft". Pittsburgh had the best chances to tied the game in last 5 minutes of the game where Sutter put the puck in front of an empty net but Kunitz missed to shot it and when Perron went close to score with an under the bar wrist shot but Rask was ready and blocked it. The Pengs tried to play with 6 offensive players but they didn't find the net and Chara scored an empty net goal to close the game out in favor of his teams.

This game has been that kind of Boston wanted to play and this is the proof that Pittsburgh suffer this game and the Bruins' style of hockey especially Sidney Crosby. The physicality didn't leave spaces for spectacular plays on offense and suffocated the Penguins offensive move right from the beginning.

My 3 stars of the game are: 3 Greiss, 2 Lucic, 1 Rask ( shutout ).

NHL: SJ Sharks 2 Chicago Blackhawks 6 recap and analysis

1st Period

Slow start of the game for both teams till the Sharks got a man advantage and right after the 1st face-off they scored a goal with Pavelski who deflected the puck into the net but the referee behind the net called goalie interference so the goal didn't go on the board. The Blackhawks reaction came right after the end of the PP on a breakaway when Sharp scored on his second try after Niemi stopped the 1st one, the game slew down a lil bit but the home team tied it with a Karlosson's goal from the goal crease with a snap shot after a rebounded puck.

2nd Period

This has been a way more funny period to watch then the 1st one thanks to the numberous scoring chances especially on the Chicago's side who had the control of the puck for the majority of the period in fact they went ahead thanks to a Keith PPG with a beautiful snap shot from the high circle but the Sharks tied it with one of their rare scoring chances and they did it in a lucky way because the Thornton shot that would go far away from the net has been deflected by Seabrook behind the Crawford's back. The Blackhawks continue to play better than their opponents for the rest of the period but they haven't been able to find the net again.

3rd Period

The Chicago's rise continued in the 3rd period with a very fast start that saw them go ahead after just 1:21 with a Saad's breakaway goal and then took off wit the snap shot goal scored by Bickell after a perfect puck movement in the offensive zone, the Chicago's domination continue till the end of the game and brought them to score other 2 times, 1st with a Sharp's slap shot from the high circle and then an empty net goal with Hossa that ended the game in favor of the Blackhawks.

This has been a very well deserved win for the Blackhawks because after a balanced 1st period both their defense and offense improved and put in serious difficulties especially with their forecheck and puck movement.
My 3 stars of the game are: 3 Bickell, 2 Keith, 1 Sharp.

NFL: blockbuster trade Graham-Unger analysis rates and considerations

Seattle Seahawks------> Unger + 1st round pick--------> NO Saints

Seahawks side:  this trade will change so much the Seattle's offense, of course this is a move to launch the Wilson career as a passer giving his a superstar in TE position, a position where they have had so many issues due to the inconsistence of the players in that role and this didn't give a safe target to Wilson to go forcing him to pass too many times to the WRs. The negative part is that they gave away argubly the best center in the NFL right now especially on running game but with some issues to stay healthy but i think it's worth for a top TE, Unger won't leave an easy hole to fill but they proved that even without him the o-line can perform good enough to let Lynch have decent runs. Rating: A-

Saints side:  of course the last years issues on Graham's arbitration forced this trade, in my opinion the Saints didn't have that desperate need to upgrade the center position or at least not big to trade their best player (don't counting Brees) to a conference rival, it's clear that the TE wanted to go somewhere else but his departure aggravated the Saints' offensive problems especially on big play receivers. Unger will upgrade their running game but the departures of Grubbs and Ingram need to be fixed to get a decent result in that department. Rating: D

It's clear that is too early to analyze the draft picks but this trade see the Seahawks as the hands down winners but i don't blame the Saints to do this because keep a player who doesn't want to stay is not good for the environment of the team but this leave to the Saints GM an hard work to do to fix the holes.
