Differences between the Eagles with Wentz and with Foles

The attack of the Eagles with Carson Wentz in the first 13 games got very good results thanks to a fairly high pace that saw the quarterback as the main responsible of all, when I speak of all I mean not only the steps but also the races since in 13 matches ran the ball 64 times with a result of 299 yards. Wentz worked very often from the shotgun alternating read options to quick launches between the number for Ertz and out for his wide receivers, this was the key to its efficiency, a good balance with the plays almost always positive in the first two down so not to get to thirds and long where like for example with the Seahawks struggled a lot. With him as a leader Philadelphia had a balanced attack but much more dangerous airborne reason why despite scoring and also a lot was done in shorter time compared to a more attack on racing, this will indeed be a key difference that we will analyze after. The RPO (run pass option) was there but Wentz made it a reduced use, much preferring the play action made even more effective after the acquisition of Jay Ajayi a season already started, an acquisition that has had a good impact immediately giving Wentz a running back capable in the first two downs to be dangerous even with side strokes making it complementary to a Blount that prefers the central races especially in third down or goal line situation. Given the amount of steps made by the number 11 and the large number of runningbacks it was difficult to exploit them all above have been exploited in specific situations based on their characteristics and this in my opinion a little made predictable attack of the Eagles in certain situations.
With Foles coach Peterson had to change almost radically his playbook and the approach to the game where having to do with a good quarterback but with characteristics totally different from those of his colleague would not make sense to ask him to do the Wentz or just the manager. As a consequence Philadelphia also seen the excellent offensive line and above all of a strong side composed by Kelce, Brooks and Johnson decided to run the ball more and to do it in a creative way capable of making Foles simultaneously dangerous, to do so tread the hand on the RPOs that especially in the playoffs where they were used most frequently have borne fruit. This new style of attack allows Foles to decide whether to let the ball run at halfback or hold and throw at any halfback receiver included, to do this requires an excellent ability to read the defense especially to snap made in order to do the right thing. Foles is a great quarterback when it comes to reading the defenses and to launch without allowing interceptions, obviously the process of adaptation was not easy and the complicated moment with the related pressures certainly did not facilitate it but despite everything they managed to get at the Superbowl and especially in the championship game against the Vikings, the merit of Foles was evident to all, seeing the 38 points of the game against one if not the strongest defense of the league. To benefit from the arrival of Foles were obviously the runnigbacks that have seen increasing the number of total races per game and then it has come to employ them even in more situations since unlike an I format or a classic shotgun with the RPOs for the defenses it is much more difficult to read what kind of running you can do runningback. With the number 9 the attack has slowed the pace running more the ball and this has allowed the defense to be less in the field increasing its efficiency given the greater freshness with which they can enter the field, especially the passrushers have benefited from this and consequence the cornerbacks that seemed the weak point of this excellent defense but that now seem to be competitive.
Wentz in his second year proved to be able to play at high levels and to have found a good continuity, Foles has shown instead to be a QB worthy of being a starter in this league and if put in a position to have mental abilities above the norm . The Very few healthy with the team and a rust made by troubled years where he has not seen the field with continuity are weighed but now he is showing that with a bit of work can make these Eagles for the first time Superbowl Champions, if this happens it will be above all merit of an offensive line composed by Wisniewski and Kelce who read every situation and very much help the QB in the audibles, by Johnson and Brooks who are two bulldozers and by a Vaitai who is doing his best to replace Peters against the most dangerous passrushers acting on the weak side.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS VS JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Who lately has always been top against those who have spent many of the last few years in the last places, diametrically opposed stories for the Patriots and the Jaguars who will compete for the title of AFC champions this Sunday in Foxboro.
Before the Pittsburgh race, everyone would have focused only on Fournette as far as the Jaguars attack was concerned, but Bortles proved to be a more competent "manager", succeeding in distributing throws in all directions and distances, thus making the work for defense opponent not at all simple despite not having exceeded 200 yards. With the Patriots it will be totally different especially considering that Belichick is the only one to play stably with a completely hybrid defense base and also that is what changes the playbook according to the opponent who has in front. That said the Jaguars will have to do what he can best run the ball of power with schemes like: Toss, Power, dive and counters as their opponents have suffered a lot this season teams that have won the battle in the scrimmage line succeeding to run effectively the ball for example the Chiefs and the Panthers who did it by storming Foxboro. Bortles to be effective will have to be careful given his excellent results in running the ball in the playoffs and knowing Belichick most likely will be applied to a container that will not allow the scramble but at the same time will give him more time to try to launch long, just the launches long could be the extra weapon for the Jags that can rely on a very velorissimo DeDe Westbrook and a powerful and healthy Allen Hurns would make it difficult for their opponents to play with the safeties near the line of scrimmage to stop Fournette. Defensively Jacksonville will have to defend very well among the numbers where the Patriots are clearly the best of the NFL, to do this Posluszny, Jack and Smith will have to cover all internal traces and if possible intimidate the receivers of New England from the first moment. In addition, the three linebackers will have to do an excellent job in containing also the running backs of the Patriots in the passing game that sees them always protagonists. The four line will be essential to put Brady in trouble without having to resort to blitz that would expose too much defense to big plays, while Ramsey and Bouye will play a man with the task of pressing non-physical wide receivers directly on the scrimmage line.
For the home team the order is clear "to prevent being taken to" Sacksonville "and to do this the ball will have to get out of Brady's hands very quickly and to do this the slants and the famous pick plays must be performed with precision surgery even if it will not be easy for the receivers to free themselves from the pressing marks. The shotgun will be a very used training especially counting the excellent offensive results obtained by the Steelers last week, a shotgun in which runningbacks will be together with Gronkowski a key part having to keep in check the front seven of the Jags with screen, draw and flat route that will give Brady that extra time to be able to wait for the release from its receivers.I defend I foresee in Pats with a 3-4 of base with the typical front composed of three defensive pure tackles with the task of destroying the blocks on the races, especially those of the Linder center that is playing at very high levels, with Chung often in the box always for the question Fournette leaving the role of "center fielder" to McCourthy in a very likely cover 1. With the duo Belichick-Patricia you never know anything until the end of the game as the hypothesis 4-6 remains alive and very useful given the physicality of the opponent, the only thing I'm sure of is that in the first three downs will never play with light formations composed of too many defensive backs.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES VS MINNESOTA VIKINGS

In the NFC Championship game two former quarterbacks from the recent history of the Rams and two very strong defenses will face. The key to the hosts to be able to penetrate the purple defense will be attacked centrally and be able to send the line men on the second level where very athletic linebackers but not very strong as Barr and Kendricks could find it difficult to fight people like Kelce or Johnson . Important will be the depth of the depth chart in the halfback role where they will have the ability to rotate good players with different features such as: Blount, Ajayi, Smallwood and Clement in order to have them always fresh and can effectively run the ball for 60 minutes. Foles will have to be very careful not only to the pressure but also to the different looks that coach Zimmer gives to his defense, changing position often to the safeties just before the snap and dropping one of the defensive ends and sending a linebacker in blitz. Foles, moreover, will see Jeffery and Ertz engaged against Rhodes and one between Barr and Kendricks, which will make it difficult to be able to serve continually, so the best matchup for Phila's attack sees Nelson Agholor in slots against super veteran Terrence Newman. Defensively, the Eagles will have to be very careful about Keenum's ability to escape the pressure (in my opinion, even better than Wilson in this aspect) given the vulnerability of their secondary with Darby and Mills who have not completely convinced so far. To do this Fletcher Cox internally and Brandon Graham in the tackle area will have to be able to have the excellent performance they have had throughout the season by creating missmatches and giving little time to Keenum to launch. Presumably Malcolm Jenkins will take care of Kyle Rudolph or if Jenkins help one of his cornerbacks he will take care of Micah Kendricks brother of the Vikings middle linebacker.
Against a front seven so dominant the attack of the Vikings will have to throw more the ball than usual, especially with rapid traces such as slants, crossing, out, flat and screens seen the little time that the Eagles passrusher reserve for opponents quarterbacks . To run the ball against a defense with these characteristics the best running back available to Minnesota is Jerick McKinon to which you can give the ball in space with toss and read options and of which Keenum has a huge confidence from the point of view of the ability to receive . The defense of the Vikings will have a much simpler task than last week but will have to pay close attention to the aggressiveness of coach Pederson in the play calling. The best matchup for the guests will be Griffen against the LT Vaitai (Peters reserve) and the weak point of the Eagles line, especially in situations of obvious launch. This matchup will certainly be able to attack the Eagles to either put a TE supposedly Burton in aid or slide the line to the left but exposing themselves to any secondary blitz from the right side. Coach Zimmer against a team so physical will almost always send at least one between Sendejo and Smith to help near the line of scrimmage and do not rule out that you send them both at the same time as Foles is no longer able to launch along as in his first experience at the Eagles.
