The Colts started with the ball and they put up an impressive drive with Herron as the protagonist on both ground and air, along with a brilliant Luck they marched right close to the Bengals goaline where Herron scored on the ground the 1st TD of the game with a inside run reading the blocks. The Bengals answered back 2 drive after that with a good drive characterized by short passes and powerful runs by Hill and has been Hill to brought them to the end zone on a dive from the I formation following DT Peko used like a FB. The Colts increased their lead FG on Hilton, FG on Nicks rec. Indy tried to score again at the end of the 1st half and they seemed to could do it until HB Herron fumbled the ball in Bengals territory due to a good tackle by Dennard. Dalton got the ball in his hands and even if with some difficulties he made his team reach the FG range where Nugent cut the lead with a good FG.
The 3rd quarter has been a nightmare for the Bengals especially on offense not gaining a single 1st down in all quarter long due to the great effort by the entire Colts' front 7 to stop the Bengals running game that along with Green and Gresham absences has been the only credible weapon. This gave the Colts the chance to take off and they did with a Moncrief receiving TD on a spectacular pass by Luck who made a perfect pass for him under pressure while he was falling to the ground due to the pressure of LE Dunlap. Since that moment thru all the 4th quarter the Colts managed the game playing safe on offense with runs on every 1st 2 downs and passes just to convert the down and along with the inconsistency of the Bengals offense they closed out the game.
Cincinnati offense has been so inconsistent all season long and with the absences of Green and Graham killed their chance to advance in playoffs, most of the people had doubts about Dalton after last 3 failures in playoffs all happened in the 1st round and i think after this game the Bengals choice to renew his contract last year has been a mistake, it's true that he didn't have his 2 best receivers but on the other side he has 1 of the best o-line in the league and his problems came just by himself missunderstanding some coverages, wasting lot of possessions with turnovers (major of them have been so badly) and also proving that he has been unable to manage his team in key situations. The Bengals running game has been a way under their standards even if they played against the not great Colts defense and this didn't help Dalton at all especially not giving their QB the chances of play actions and screens.
Indianapolis played a really solid game by the way i think that they have to improve their game if they wanna win next week in Denver, we all know their passing game is an elite 1 and Luck in this game did his job completely against a very good defense especially against the passes and even their running game lead by Herron proved some improvements, their defense is the weakest part and even if they had great results in this game i think there are lots of faults of Dalton, they made a remarkable job against both Hill and Bernard all game long.
The MVP of this game has been Luck in my opinion but the Colts received an huge contribution by HB Herron on both passing and running game.
