seoVery good start by the Chargers offense who put up their best drive thus far in this season moving the ball on the air in a multiple ways reading great the blitzes especially the crossing blitz by the 2 MLBs of the Steelers and it hasn't been a casualty that the first drive of Gates resulted in a very effective one ended by his 100th career TD. Since that moment for over a quarter the defenses shutdown the offenses until Pittsburgh found the way to arrive in Chargers' territory thanks to a very effective running game who had 2 big plays thanks to the Bell's elusiveness and his ability to run counter plays, once in FG range they have been stopped but it didn't stop them to score 3 points. SD tried to score with the last drive of the half but once they arrived close to FG range they prefered to kick a 60 yards FG instead to try to convert a 3rd and short that in my opinion sounded more reasonable and it resulted in a failure wide on the left post.
The Chargers started the second half in a bad way turning the ball over on midfield on a poor ball protection by HB Gordon, fortunately for them the defense stopped Steelers offense immediately even thanks to the lack of trust that Haley shown on his QB to throwing the ball. The turnover's trend continued again for the Chargers and that time has been ore painful for them when close to midfield Floyd run a poor post route and Blake who was covering him picked off the pass and retuned it right into the end zone for the first Steelers TD of the day. SD's reaction arrived on the following drive moving the ball effectively on the air especially passing inside the numbers but again the o-line issues continued to limit them and that's why they picked up just 3 points on a FG. Chargers defense continue to do his job and gave a chance to their offense to go ahead and they did it, again moving the ball on the air and again with a huge contribution of Gates who converted 2 downs and score another TD on a fade route in the back of the end zone to give his team a 7 points lead. The Steelers answered immediately with the most spectacular play of the night, a 72 yards strike Vick to Weathon on a well executed double move to get free on Flowers who was covering him. With the game on the line and trailing by 3 the Steelers 3 yards away from the Chargers end zone and 5 seconds left in the game decided to run instead to kick and Bell when seemed to fall short he broke 2 tackles and scored the game winning TD.
Another awful performance by the entire Chargers o-line let them lose another easy game to win and the defense made a very bad job against the runs that with the absence of Big Ben it was their only option to attack, Rivers played a good game even if the o-line didn't protect him but the return of Gates has been a great addition for their offense. Pittsburgh played a solid defensive game and rode Bell tot make goos gains on offense that let them win this game, the o-line made a very good job especially on counter plays that literally killed the Chargers defense, Vick by the way missed too many decisions and he has been lucky that the SD's defense didn't take advantage of it.
