NFL: San Francisco 49ers 21 Arizona Cardinals 33 recap and analysis

The 49ers hosted the Cardinals for the thursday night game, both teams started 1-3 the season and due to for this this has been a key game for them to keep the playoffs' chances alive. The first quarter has been an offensive debacle for both teams, something to delete due to a lot of errors: drop passes, miss targets and miss assignment in QB protection, that's why the first quarter ended scoreless. This trend changed around the half of the second quarter when Gabbert had a 4/4 drive all passes received by Kerley included the TD on the flat route, passing hasn't been the only key for the success of the drive because he and Hyde moved the ball so well on the ground. Arizona tied the game inside the 2 minutes warning thanks to their defense especially to Jones who deflected the pigskin in the air and Campbell who intercepted it inside the 20 yards of the 9ers, Stanton took advantage of that situation finding Fitzgerald on a corner route for the game tying TD.
The second half started in the worst way possible for the home team when on the kickoff return back up TE Momad forced and recovered the fumble, this provided a great field position and Johnson scored his first rushing TD of the night on a power run behind the RT, their lead increased on their following drive where Johnson and Ellington made a very good job to run the ball especially between the tackles until Stanton made the throw of his career targeting Fitzgerald who got free from the coverage thank to an awesome double move for his second TD of the game. San Francisco answered back immediately with Gabbert who run the ball so well on the read option alternating his run with the Hyde's ones until they came close to the end zone where Hyde took a "normal" handoff to score his first TD of the game. When the 9ers seemed to have the advantage Gabbert tried to find Kerley on an out route by Marcus Cooper undercut it and picked 6 the 9ers QB but this time the visitors got only 3 points out of the turnover. Six minutes later they closed the game out on a 2 yard Johnson TD after a balanced drive that has been efficient even in chewing the remaining time.
The keys to Arizona to win the game have been an awesome defense in matter of creating turnovers, a very efficient running game between the tackles thanks also to a great job by the o-line who played without the 2 great starting guards Mathis and Iupati but to be competitive the need to get back with Palmer the ability to move the ball on the air like last season to all the receivers and not just to the great Fitzgerald who still to put up great numbers. On the other side the 9ers felt so much the absence of Bowman especially against the running game, the offense continue to struggle in metter of turnovers and moving the ball on the air by the way great tough performance by Hyde who deserved credit to put everything he had on the field and carried his offense by himself for several drives.

MVP: Johnson
