1st Period
After 3 disappointing games in matter of offense the Rangers started game 2 in a very different way scoring with a Kreider's wrist shot after just 38 seconds, Washington tried to react with his captain who has been stopped by Lundqvist with an impressive safe on a slap shot. After some very intense minutes of offense by both teams NY scored again with a PPG by Boyle with a slap shot fro the blue line using the screens to hide the puck to Holtby. The Rangers got another shot to score on the last 2 minutes on another PP but Holtby denied everything.
2nd Period
The home team shown their presence in front of Holtby sometimes to begin the 2nd period but after that the Capitals got the control f the game with Lundqvist called to make some great stops, one on 2 times and another very good on a Beagle's shot, nothing could on a Kutzeznov snap shot who cut the lead to just 1 goal, the visitors came close to tied it a couple of times near the end of the period and also Brassard on a rebounded puck in from of Holtby.
3rd Period
The Capitals continued their positive trend getting the man advantage after 4 minutes but they haven't been able to score and at the end of it Brassard scored behind the Holtby's legs capitalizing the St. Louis' assist, Kreider came close his second goal to close the game out but he hit the post. Ovechkin cut again the lead with a beautiful breakaway goal who saw him splits 2 defenders then put his wrist shot under the crossbar right from his knees. Washington tried to tied it till the end but they didn't due to a very good game by Lundqvist and the Rangers defense who has been solid all game long.
