The Mets scored immediately with a Granderson's lead off HR against Volquez who missed high a 2 seam fastball, on the other side Harvey didn't have a single stressful inning and it has been the key to keep his pitch count low. Both pitchers continued to keep their command good until Volquez lost it completely in the 6th inning when he loaded the bases and gave up an RBI fly out to Lucas Duda but at least he limited the damages just to that, their bullpen came in relief of him and gave up nothing to the Mets offense something that Harvey continue to do great thanks to the different changes of level of his pitches especially on fast-change combination along with a sharpe curveball who seemed the one that he hasn't been able to do in the first game of the series but in the 9th Collins didn't have the fast hook and Harvey gave up a run and left a man in scoring position where Familia hasn't been able to shutdown the Royals' offense so they tied the game in the 9th. The game continued until the 12th inning where Reed came up in relief for the Mets and unfortunately for them he didn't have any command on every of his pitches and gave up 5 runs something that with Davis coming up from the bullpen let the Mets' fan leave their seats earlier.
The Royals didn't play better than their rivals but they played with an amazing experience and calm for what still a young team, the Mets lost the clutch hitting that characterized their postseason something that the Royals kept during all the playoffs and also in this game 5 who gave them their first ring in 30 years. It has been sad the Harvey after a great performance he didn't get the win especially because he seemed the old Harvey with a great command of the fastball that let his sliders and curveballs been so effective. On the other side the hard throwing bullpen made all the difference been reliable for the second straight season and the result has been a huge trouble to get on base especially to avoid extra base hits.
