1st Period PIT 0 SJ 0
The first 10 minutes has been played on high pace but none of both teams has been able to create good scoring chance due to the good defense at the blue lines that avoided easy entrance in the offensive zones, the first scoring chance on Bonino's stick who hit the side of the post. The home team got the first power play of the game with 8 minutes left to play in the period but even if the established twice the puck possession in the offensive zones they haven't been able to make a good enough puck movement to shoot on goal, with that very good positioning the visitors have been able to kill it easly. The only scoring chance for the Sharks came with 30 seconds left to play in the period when they have been able to establish the possession of the puck fo some seconds and due to a good puck movement Hertl found him self close to the goal crease but Murray stopped his back hander.
2nd Period PIT 1 SJ 0
Two minutes into the second period and Jones has been called to make a difficult save on Cullen's slap shot from the low circle but immediately San Josè reacted with their forecheck recovering a puck that finished to Hertl who made a great play behind the net with a back hander shot that hit the farther post. With 11:40 left to play in this period the "HBK" striked again in this postseason, everything born in the neutral zone where Hagelin got the puck and once they put the puck in the offensive zone San Josè recovered it but just for few seconds because the same Hagelin used his speed to regain the possession of it then he passed it to Bonino who made a perfect assist to Kessel who just pushed the puck into the open net. Few seconds later to the goal Martin the former Penguins committed a minor penalty for high sticking and Pittsburgh made a good job to establish the possession of the puck in the offensive zone and it produced a couple of dangerous shots from the distance, the most dangerous one by Malkin that came close to score on the farther post. With 1:10 left in the period the Sharks got their first power play of the game and after the established the puck possession in the offensive zone due to the face-off win their puck movement hasn't been so good giving the Pens a chance to clean the puck, once it happened they haven't been able to came close to Murray again.
3rd Period PIT 1 SJ 1
The Sharks came into the third period trailing by one goal and Tierney who hit another post from the low circle on a wrist shot during a breakaway, San Josè continue to be aggressive with their forecheck trying to tie the game and the shooting count have been in their favor during this period but they haven't been able to do that until 4:05 left in the period when Braun's slap shot from the high circle beat Murray due to the traffic in front of him.
OT PIT 2 SJ 1
The overtime has been a short one due to a Sheary game winning goal after Crosby won the face-off in the offensive zone then Letang passed the puck in the high slot to number 43 who beat Jones with a perfect wrist shot under the crossbar on the farther post, in my opinion the Sharks forwards had to be more aggressive not leaving so much time to shoot the Sheary who had all the time he needed.
