NHL Stanley Cup FInals 2016: San Josè Sharks 1 Pittsburgh Penguins 3 recap and analysis

1st Period SJ 0 PIT 1

No scoring chances and just 1 shot for each time for the first 7 minutes until Rust got the possession of the puck in the offensive zone close to the wall and passed it to a free Damelin that tried with a writer from the  circle to beat Jones who anticipated it being aggressive and doing so he has been able to deflect it high over the net, few plays later the Penguins went ahead on the scoreboard due to one time by Cole from the circle, the primary assist went to Kessel who intentionally shot on goal on the far side to force Jones to make a safe with his pad so being unable to block it creating a chances for his teammate. Pittsburgh continue to be more prepositive on offense and this drawn a penalty to Vlasic for interference that unfortunately for the visitors they haven't been able to use in the best way. San Josè got their first power play of the game with 5:14 left to play in this period but they haven't been able to capitalize it due to a too slow puck movement that let the Penguins' penalty killers get in the right position to block the majority of their shots.

2nd Period SJ 0 PIT 2

2:30 played in the second period and the Penguins got a power play where they won the face-off then Kessel passed the puck across the ice close to the farther post where Malkin tapped in from the blue paint for the second Penguins' goal. Pittsburgh didn't stop to attack and the hit 2 post on consecutive breakaways continuing to outshoot and outplay the home team, since that the game got a lil bit too quite in matter of scoring chances until 5 minutes left in the period when the line of Ward, Spalling and company brought energy on forechecking and this pressure paid off in matter on recovered pucks, one of them shot by Spalling ended on the crossbar and another has been sent too high by Couture with a wrister that tried to beat Murray under the crossbar where he seems his weak point.

3rd Period SJ 1 PIT 3

5 minutes into the third period Marleau had the best scoring chance in this game for his team on a breakaway one on one with a patient Murray that stopped him. The Sharks finally went to the scoreboard with 11:47 left to play in this period when they pushed the puck in the offensive zone, Crosby missed to clean it then he lost Karlsson close to the goal crease and he has been able to take advantage of a crumbling puck to beat Murray for the first goal of the game by his team. Close to the end of the period the Penguins won the majority of the face-offs and it made the difference especially because it opened up breakaways, one of them with 2:03 left in the game well managed by Hagelin who passed the puck to Fehr who beat Jones with a wrister that gave definitely the win to the Penguins and put them one win away from the Stanley Cup.

MY 3 Stars of the game

1 Kessel
2 Murray
3 Malkin
