NHL game 4: SJ Sharks 3 STL Blues 6 recap and analysis

1st Period SJ 0 STL 2

The game started with some minutes of delay and the same happened with the rhythm on ice, we had to wait 5 minutes of hard hit in a slow game to see the first scoring chances, the first scoring chance for the visitors came on a power play after 6 minutes in the game and they scored on it due to a very good puck movement by the entire second power play unit who let Brouwer score on a one timer from the low circle thanks to a perfect pass from behind the goal by Fabbri. Couture tried with a personal play to tie the game but he found a ready Allen who blocked his back hand try, on the other side with 9:49 left in the period Backes forecheck made his team recover a puck in the offensive zone that Fabbri shoot on goal but he found Jones who made an outstanding save but who couldn't do anything on Lethera's shot. Sharks didn't stop to struggle and on a counterattack with Jones beaten by Fabbri's pass Burns (the best Shark in this period) saved a sure goal diving in front of the net.

2nd Period SJ 0 STL 4

The Blues started the period with the man advantage but San Josè killed it without giving up big chances, since that both teams struggled to establish the possession of the puck in the respective offensive zone, the situation seemed to could change when with less than 6 minutes played in the period the Sharks went on a power play due to a Shattenkirk interference but they mishandled a puck in the offensive zone so the Blues went on a breakaway with Schwartz who assisted Broziak who beat Jones on the further post. The visitors scored their second goal of the period at the same second of the first period one in a very similar way, with the Sharks unable to clear the puck that resulted in a painful turnover well handled by Jaskin who gave a very good puck to Broziak who beat Jones with a low quick one timer. After this goal Jones left the game replaced by Reimer, a very good choice counting the heavy deficit at that time.

3rd Period SJ 3 STL 6

The Sharks returned on ice very aggressive trying to get back in the game, the start has been the best they could do scoring within 1 minute from the start of the period with a sharp deflection by Pavelski on an hard cross ice pass by Thornton, unfortunately for them they committed a penalty with 4 minutes played in the third period and the Blues let them pay scoring on a Brouwer deflection a Steen blue line wrist shot reestablish the 4 goals lead. The home team didn't give up and the continue to be aggressive especially with their forechecking and it let Tierney score on a confusing play, they continue to put pressure on the Blues but overtime they had a scoring chance they found Allen who denied everything to keep his team ahead of 3 goals. The Sharks chances to comeback ended on a Pietrbngelo empty net with less than 5 minutes to play.
