NFL: New Orleans Saints 32 Atlanta Falcons 45 recap and analysis

The third monday night of the season started with Brees & Co. in possession of the pigskin against the division rivals of the Falcons in a game that in last years shown a lot of spectacular moments. The Saint had a very good first drive moving the ball in the most balanced way possible alternating north south Ingram's runs to Brees precises short pass and this drove the Falcons defense crazy and unable to answer back, the result has been that the Saints came close to the end zone thanks to a trick play well designed by Payton that saw the HB give the ball back to Brees after received the handoff, then the Saints QB made a perfect pass to Cooks, once close to the end zone they fake a play action for Ingram and passes the ball in the back of the end zone for a free Fleener who scored the first TD of the game. On the following possession the Falcons went 3 and out but during the punt Harris clashed into Lewis causing a fumble recovered by Atlanta on NO's 10 yards, the visitors took advantage of it scoring 7 with Coleman on the ground on a dive run. The Falcons go their first lead of the night on their following drive with a swing pass from Ryan to Freeman who burn the defense out with his speed scoring his first TD of the night, Saints' reaction didn't wait to come and it arrived thanks to draw plays for Ingram who literally teared a part the Falcons defense and once close to the end zone Brees found Thomas for his first NFL TD on a slant route. For the Falcons' the Coleman's show heated up scoring 2 rushing TD on their following 2 drive between the end of the first half and the start of the second one, in between of those 2 TDs Lutz made a 57 harder for the home team at the end of the first half. Trailing by 18 points Brees got to move the ball on air more frequently and try to go deep down field and he did especially to rookie WR Thomas, once close to the end zone he handed off the ball from the shot gun to Kuhn who run in the middle for his first TD of the season. New Orleans had a big chance to reduce the deficit inside the Falcons red zone but hen Brees tried to go once again to his favorite target of the day Thomas Trufant made a great coverage deflected the ball on air that has been caught to Dion Jones that returned it right into the Saint end zone for the TD that killed the Saints' comeback chances.
Both teams are very good on the offensive party of their game but it's also true that they are so weak on the defensive department on both running and passing game, especially the Falcons are too vulnerable on draw plays and their pass rushing didn't improve since last year, on the other side the Saints have an awesome Drew Brees who run the offense alone making everyone who play with him look very good but on defense (in my opinion one of the 3rd worst in the NFL) they seemed to be unable to keep their opponents under 30 points this season and the injuries at the CB position are making it even worse.

MVP: Coleman
