MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates 1 St. Louis Cardinals 4 recap and analysis

PIRATES: They haven't been able to produce anything on the first 2 innings but in the third they got a good chance to score with McCutchen at the plate and runners on first and second base but Martinez won the battle with a great slider that struck out the reigning MVP. They had another great chance to sore in the following inning when with no outs runners at second an third they witnessed to a spectacular double play turned by the Cards' pitcher after he caught an Alvarez liner then threw the ball perfectly to 3rd to eliminate the runner. Nothing happen on offense till the 9th when Mccutcheon hit an homer over Maness to give an hope to his team but against Rosenthal they had no chance.

CARDINALS: Very quite offense for the first 3 inning but in the 4th they shown some life put 2 runner on base but Reynold with 2 out shown all his inconsistency being struck out with a change by Locke, in the following inning the Cardinals scored 4 runs with 2 singles on bases loaded (1 by Carpenter, the other by Yadi). Since that great inning they haven't been able to produce anything due to a very good performance by Worley in relief.

PITCHERS

Locke had a very good use of change up and a good control of the fastball early in the game, when he was relaxed he shown very good things alternating fastball so well with an effective change up and few times with curve ball who caught impreparated some batters.

Martinez terrific breaking stuff made all the difference along with an elettric fastball that went from 97 to 100 that made him untouchable for the most of the batters, he shown against a tough line up especially for the great contact hitter that the Bucs have that he deserve to be an All Star

MVP: Carlos Martinez
