NFL: Detroit Lions 24 Green Bay Packers 31 recap and analysis

In the last sunday night of the regular season the Lions hosted at Ford Field the Packers, this has been a division winning game that would give the winner the first round home field advantage. The first quarter has been characterized by the defense, the visitors one made a good job against the passes with the only Tate III able to create problems to their secondary on the other side the home team's defense blitzed Rodgers often forcing him to hurry the passes but they gave up a lil bit too much on inside runs by FB Ripkowski. The first scoring chances came at the very beginning of the second quarter on the foot of Prater who missed an unusual kick for him inside the 40 yards that gave the ball to the Packers in a good field position. Aaron Rodgers took advantage of it driving the ball down field so well with passes and most of all eluding the very good blitzes by the Lions' defense that left the secondary a lil bit uncovered giving up a lot of short/medium passes that brought the visitors close to the goal line where Ripkowski received his first TD of the season of a release route after protect his QB. Detroit's answer arrived immediately with a very good drive on air by Stafford who converted a 3rd and 15 to TJ Jones on a vertical seem that kept alive the drive ended with the game tying rushing TD on 3rd down by HB Zack Zenner who thus far had a very solid game using his size on inside the tackle runs. The Lions had the last chance of the first half to score with 2:30 left on the clock, Stafford started that drive risking an interception but Clay Matthews missed it on a zone coverage, since that the Lions' QB got rhythm and drive his team down field with precise passes and a good distribution of them that brought them few yards away from the end zone, once there Stafford threw a quick pass to Tate III who run a pick play on a flat route that left him untouched enter in the end zone. With 27 seconds left in this half Rodgers made a miracle with 2 completion he gave the chance to Crosby to kick a 53 yards FG to reduce the gap and his kicker got the job done to end an intense first half of football.
The second drive of the second half gave the lead back to the Packers who made their best of the game thus far thanks to Jordy Nelson who beat Darius Slay Jr. on man to man coverage giving Rodgers a reliable target, once close to the end zone Rodgers found Davante Adams on a flat route for his second TD pass of the game. At the beginning of the fourth quarter Green Bay extended their lead with a great drive by the duo Rodgers-Allison that killed the man to man coverage by the Lions' secondary, i t ended by a receiving TD by Allison in the back of the end zone after an amazing pocket escape by Rodgers. Detroit's reaction came a lil bit short scoring just 3 points on a 54 yards FG by Prater and on the following drive the visitors ontnue to roll on offense scoring another TD with Devante Adams who beat the man coverage due to a fade route. The Lions trailing by 2 full possession had the chance to cut the deficit at 1 possession but they failed when close to the end zone Micah Hyde picked off Stafford  who tried to throw the ball to Golden Tate, the result has been Packers' ball and game over.
