UFC 205: Jedrzejczyk vs Kowalkiewicz recap and analysis

In the first of the three title fights of UFC 205 the champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk defended her title in a Polish derby against Karolina Kowalkiewicz, both of the fighter are pure strikers and in fact the fight started with both of them exchange hits standing up, for the first 2 rounds the champions has been more aggressive landing the heavier hits taking advantage of his very quick and precises hands. The challenger didn't not answer back so much until the third round when she tried the break the guard of her rival with some combinations of punches but Joanna answered back closing the distance and putting the contender in a clinch where she landed some very heavy hits with the elbows using her muay thai background. In the fourth round Karolina finally have been more aggressive and along with the lack of cardio of her rival she came close to finalize Joanna with a powerful right straight landed close to the left eye of the champion who didn't go down but who received other combination of punches that made her rival hopes to win stay alive. The champion clearly ahead three rounds to one on the scorecard fought the fifth round in the most conservative way possible avoiding furious exchange of hits and keeping the distance with low kicks as she did for all the fight long, the result has been a unanimous decision ( 49-46) in favor of the champion who continue to stay undefeated in UFC.
