NHL: Philadelphia Flyers 1 Washington Capitals 0 recap and differencemaker points analysis

1st Period PHI 1 WAS 0

- Flyers energy: they skated faster and with more intensity than their rivals and this let them have more chances offensively and defensively, especially doing that the drew the penalty that forced the PP where they scored
- Flyers forecheck: really intense and well done, they put the Capitals defensemen in trouble stopping their play at the beginning
- Capitals poor puck movement: they made too many bad decision where to pass the puck
- Flyers positionning: they always tried to disturb Holtby with traffic in the goal crease and also they were so well positionated that when they moved the puck it was often a free player to receive it

2nd Period PHI 2 WAS 0

- Flyers penalty killing improved after 3 disastrous games
- Flyers will to get every lose and contested pucks created some chances included the second goal of the game scored by MacDonald with a slap shot from the blue line
- Capitals inability to estabilish an offensive zone possession
- Flyers outshoot the Capitals even if Holtby didn't have to make remarkable saves
- Capitals forwards poor support to their defensemen let the Flyers forecheck be more effective

3rd Period PHI 2 WAS 1

- Capitals energy level grew up to contrast the Flyers one present since the beginning of the game
- Capitals outshoot the Flyers in this period
- Flyers forecheck didn't continue to be the great one shown in the first 2 periods due to a understandable drop of energies
- Capitals Forechecking seemed to be more aggressive creating turnovers
- Flyers goalie Neuvirth made some very good saves especially on Ovechkin low circle slap shots

MY 3 stars of the game

1 Neuvirth

2 Gostisbehere

3 MacDonald
