NFL SUPERBOWL 52 preview and matchups analysis

The Superbowl 52 will face the New England Patriots (white jersey) and the Philadelphia Eagles (green jersey) and will be the symbolic revenge of the Superbowl 39 where the Brady Patriots beat the Eagles of McNabb. Unlike 13 years ago this year the favorite bookmakers are the Patriots seen a dominant attack and a defense that in one way or another always gets along, a defense that Foles will have to be good at reading as Belichick is unpredictable and do not even know what the basic scheme will play. The Philadelphia attack will have a notable advantage on the scrimmage line where not only Blount and Ajayi will be able to run in power but Foles will have a good time to throw the ball and in case of a blitz must be good to read them so as to keep the defense of the Patriots in check and force them to risk a lot, to help him in the readings there will certainly be Jason Kelce, excellent center and second coach in the field. If the ground and pound of the greens will be effective especially on the strong side will force Chung to play from added linebacker and it will be there that Foles will have to show off the talent seen against the Vikings in the deep tracks, exploiting above all the height of Jeffery who will have a favorable missmatch both against Butler that against Gillmore in that fundamental. Foles will have to be very careful in my opinion not to be too conservative because Belichick you know that tends to grant what is worse for you and what more often you will see a classic cover 2 underneath that makes it very difficult for short throws. The RPOs (running pass options) will be important but coach Pederson will have to sip them since the Pats will have prepared themselves against the best weapon of future opponents. As for the slots and tight positions Agholor and Ertz will have to be exploited a lot considering the shortcomings of their opponents in the slot cornerback position and in the classic coverage linebacker, this could lead Chung or McCourthy to play a man on Ertz exposing himself to the game of races that run long distances like deep post, deep corner or verticals. Defensively the Eagles have all the cards on the table to be able to limit Brady, I say limit because you know ... Brady especially in the playoffs is almost never held under 17 points and already this would be an acceptable result to allow your attack to play without too much pressure. To do this the key man par excellence will be Fletcher Cox, the defensive All Pro Eagles tackle will be the man who will have to force Brady to run and throw moving sideways into his pocket, something that the QB of the Patriots does not like to do and that could bring New England to double Cox and consequently either leave Graham one on one against Solder or put a tight end as an extra lineman, greatly limiting Brady's offensive options. As for coverage, against Brady must play most of the actions to man, at least against the wide receiver, as for the ungrateful task of marking Gronkowski that probably will be entrusted to the strong safety Malcolm Jenkins with a probable doubling of a linebacker like Kendricks which is great in coverage.
The defending champions will have to entrust to short and fast pitches like slants and screen in order to slow down the passrushers opponents even without insistently running the ball, which the Pats does not come very well recently. The weak point that Brady will have to attack above all by counting the sure doubles on Gronk will be the secondary, in particular the cornerbacks Mills and Darby, a clear improvement but still quite inexperienced. To do this Brady must have the support of his line and continue the good trend seen against the Jaguars where the sides have been protected to the great. Runningbacks will have a key role against this defense so complete and will have it especially in the passing game where genre like Lewis and White can create missmatches with linebackers and also run wheel routes or verticals given their athleticism and their receiver skills.
Defensively after the competition against the Vikings it will no longer be possible to say only eye to the game of races but it will be necessary to stop the RPOs first of all in way to remove a lot of unpredictability to the attack of the Eagles. To do this Belichick will be able to use a 4-3 with the end in containments in order to better read the situation and then intervene, in the secondary instead a cover to man especially against the wide receivers is the right choice and will not exclude blitz from the secondary to confuse Foles perhaps dropping a defensive end in the cover. To stop racing New England will be forced given the physicality of the Eagles line to play eight in the box with special attention and relative shift on their left side where there is the greatest risk.
